The Porsche 924 couldn’t. The Porsche 944 couldn’t. Even the Porsche 911 couldn’t.
And you wouldn’t be any better off in the Lamborghini Countach.
In fact almost 52,000L less well off. (The new Mazda RX7 costs 13,995L)
Because the new mazda RX7 is the only car that has a Dynamic Tracking Suspension System.
In anything else, the harder you corner, the harder it gets to stay on the road.
When the cornering forces try to push you off the curve, the new RX7 is the only car whose suspension is designed to turn the outside rear wheel into the corner. Giving it outstanding stability. The cornering G force of the car can resist is measured in terms of lateral acceleration. Audi’s 4 wheel drive Quattro attained 0.80G, the Ferrari 308 GTB QV got up to 0.81G, the Porsche 944 was even better at 0.82G, and the Lamborghini Countach was able to achieve a staggering 0.87G.
The RX7 beats them all at 0.88G, the highest figure of any production car tested.
So then it was tested through a rigorous slalom, too. The Audi Quattro got through at nippy 57.9mph. The Ferrari 308 GTB QV proved more agile still, completing the course at an average 60.9mph. And you’d have to be going some to beat the top of the range Porsche 911 Carrera’s speed at 61.2mph. The RX7 was; it powered through the slalom at 62mph, faster than all three.
But it’s not just on corners that the RX7 loses other cars.
The Mazda’s highly refined 148bhp engine takes it from 0-60 in a blistering 7.9 seconds.
And then easily on to a top speed of 130mph (test tracks and autobahns only, please) The performance outside is matched by a finely tuned performance inside (coming from a 25watt, 4 speaker stereo system).
The interior comes complete with everything under the sun, including a tilt/slide sunroof. And although you’ve got a lot of power under your right foot, you won’t need a lot of power in your right arm because the RX7 has electric windows.
For more information on the RX7 call Janet Bennett on (0892) 40123. Or ask your dealer if you can take the new Mazda RX7 for a spin. You won’t be able to.
